I have been a registered manager since 2018, currently on a 48-bed nursing home in the North West. Before that I was deputy at a residential service for four years and a senior carer for six before that. Every real change in a care service meets resistance somewhere — a senior who kept doing it the old way, a night team that quietly stopped using the sensor mats. People edit that out because it feels like a failure. It is the strongest paragraph in the account and I put it back in every time.
I still hold the registration and I still do the on-call. That matters, because a manager who left the sector five years ago would be writing about a CQC framework that has since changed underneath them.
